An analytical model was established to calculate the curve of temperature distributions in surface grinding with intermittent wheels. In order to predict the numbers of the pulses imposed on the fluctuating temperature profile, a new quantity, the dynamic number of wheel segments in the grinding zone, was defined. The temperatures at the grinding zone were measured by using a foil thermocouple.
